A Tragedy Beyond Words: Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar Bids Farewell to Her Eight Children Under Israeli Bombardment

In a heart-wrenching scene, Palestinian pediatrician Dr. Alaa Al-Najjar, who works at Nasser Hospital in Gaza, received the charred remains of her eight children—victims of a brutal Israeli airstrike that targeted her home. This was not merely a farewell from a mother to her children; it was a cry from every human conscience in the face of relentless, indiscriminate violence.

The names of the martyred children:

1. Yahya Hamdi Al-Najjar

2. Rakan Hamdi Al-Najjar

3. Ruslan Hamdi Al-Najjar

4. Gibran Hamdi Al-Najjar

5. Eve Hamdi Al-Najjar

6. Revan Hamdi Al-Najjar

7. Sayden Hamdi Al-Najjar

Eight innocent souls rose to the heavens, leaving behind a shattered mother who had spent her days saving the lives of others’ children—never imagining that her own would fall victim to this ongoing madness. Each name tells of a unique world, a small dream, a laugh that will never be heard again.

Dr. Alaa, who was used to rescuing children from death, stood helpless this time—faced with loss, buried beneath the silence of a complicit world. It is as if this aggression was meant to punish life itself, through the heart of one mother who embodied both care and resilience, motherhood and profession. With them, the laughter of childhood and the tales told before bedtime were buried.

This is not just another incident or number to be added to the list of martyrs. It is a full-fledged crime that exposes the impotence of the international community, the hypocrisy of global powers, and forces us to ask once again: how long will children in Gaza be killed without accountability? How long will mothers’ tears pour before the walls of the United Nations without yielding justice?

In bidding farewell to her children, Alaa did not only cry as a mother. She wept as a symbol of Palestinian women's resilience—targeted in their homes, their professions, and their humanity. Her cry echoes still: is there a heart that feels? Is there a conscience that awakens?

Gaza compresses its pain into moments like these: a funeral in which one mother carries eight shrouds—eight unfinished dreams.
